Our Class!!!

(A helicopter flew by and we were waving at it.)
This Friday was the 1st day all 25 kiddos were at school.
We went outside the classroom to snap some class pictures.

There were WILD THINGS in B-104 on Wednesday......
1st we read the story.

Then, we watched it on Bookflix. This is a website that animates storybooks. Our school is so awesome it renewed our subscription for another school year!

Next, we became WILD THINGS by using our bodies.

In drama, we use the state of standing in Neutral. This is where they find a spot in the room to stand in, have a calm body, their eyes are focused on the speaker, and hands are to their sides. This is great for drama activities in the classroom. It's the 'starting' point of our task at hand. Here are 3 of the students showing the class what NEUTRAL looks like.
Next, I asked them to show us what a Wild Thing looks like.
Here's what they chose to do.
THEY ARE AMAZING AT DRAMA!

For the next part of the lesson we got into groups of 3 or 4 and they were given one paper and one marker.  The student needs to draw a Wild Thing onto the paper by taking turns. Each person needed to add 3-4 details on the paper and here it comes SHARE the marker. This was a great team bonding lesson and another chance for the students to learn how to take turns. They did a great job and made some FABULOUS creations!

Learning how to use white boards...

We use white boards in our classroom all year long. This week, we got them out for the 1st time and we had a good time using them. We made drawings of our favorite things and a circle map about Tacky The Penguin (a story we read in class).
Dillon and Mia were all smiles when we got the white boards out!

I'll say: "1,2,3, show me your boards."

That's Tacky and his favorite food which is a fish sandwich (as you can see in the picture).

The class had time to "free draw". This is when they can write, draw, or create anything they want on their boards for about 2-3 mins.

There is a routine for everything in kindergarten. Even putting away the white boards. We take turns returning the markers, boards, and then throw away the kleenex eraser. These kiddos are fast learners and love taking care of our classroom tools!

Cutting and gluing to make colors posters!

We started by cutting out colors from old magazines.
Here is Remi going at it with her cutting skills! Super Job Remi!

Aidan is getting the hang of it too! Yay!

Here are all the colors we cut out from old magazines!

Next, we got into small groups and glued the cuttings to the same color paper. Here's the catch... there was only one bottle of glue. They had to talk, share, and take turns using the glue. I have to say I was very impressed with they teamwork skills my little kiddos displayed today!

Working in groups can be hard for this age group, but they did awesome!

The gray team was working hard and stayed on task the entire time. They even got done quickly and did a second color poster!

Mia is a tiny-glue-dot-master now! :)

Here is our final product.... oh and our silly faces!

Our color posters and now hanging up in our classroom for all to see!

This week is going so well... I am very pleased with the awesome behaviors and postive actions my class is showing me! Yay!!!
